Is this allowed under Google's review policy?
Yes, when you ask every customer the same neutral way and offer nothing in return. Google Review Agent sends the same ask to everyone, never filters by how happy a customer seems, and never offers incentives. Those are the two things Google prohibits, and the product is built so you cannot do either by accident.
Do I need consent to text my customers?
You need an existing business relationship and a phone number the customer gave you. Every first text includes a STOP line, opt-outs are honored instantly, and we never text the same person more than twice per job. You are responsible for only sending to customers who gave you their number.
What happens if a customer replies?
Their reply is logged next to the request and you get an email with what they said and their number. Reply to them directly from your phone. If they reply STOP, they are opted out and never texted again.
Does it work on Android?
Yes. The link is a normal web link. It opens the Google review form in the browser or the Google Maps app on iPhone and Android alike. iPhones may receive the text as an iMessage; Android phones get a standard SMS.
